The Effect Of Case-Based Learning On Students’ Economic Problem-Solving Ability Through Positive Attitude As A Moderating Variable
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing case-based Economics learning on students' economic problem-solving ability, with a positive attitude toward Economics as a moderating variable. The research was conducted at MAN Pangkep using a mixed-method approach with a sequential explanatory design. The population consisted of 108 eleventh-grade social science students from classes XI IPS A, XI IPS B, XI IPS C, and XI IPS D. The sample comprised 100 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS), while qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
The results of the study indicate that case-based Economics learning has a positive and significant effect on students’ economic problem-solving abilities, as evidenced by a t-statistic value of 2.328 and a p-value of 0.020. Case-based Economics learning also has a positive effect on students’ positive attitudes toward Economics, with a t-statistic value of 18.830 and a p-value of 0.000, while positive attitudes have a positive effect on economic problem-solving abilities, with a t-statistic value of 16.032 and a p-value of 0.000. Furthermore, positive attitudes were found to strengthen the effect of case-based Economics learning on students’ economic problem-solving abilities, as indicated by a t-statistic value of 11.024 and a p-value of 0.000. These findings suggest that the better the implementation of case-based Economics learning and the higher the students’ positive attitudes toward Economics, the greater their ability to solve economic problems.
